Kahrizak detention center closed on orders of Leader

TEHRAN, July 28 (MNA) – Kahrizak detention center has been closed following an order by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The detention center, located in the south of Tehran, was closed because it lacked the minimum standards for keeping prisoners, MP Kazem Jalali said on Tuesday.

Jalali stated that soon after the Leader was informed about the matter he ordered the closure of the detention center.

Members of a special parliamentary committee tasked to examine the post-election detentions were to inspect the Evin prison on Tuesday.

“The members of the committee will visit Evin prison today (Tuesday),” Jalali, the spokesman of the special parliamentary committee, told the Mehr News Agency.

The parliamentary committee is headed by MP Parviz Sorouri. The MPs sitting on the security, judicial, and education committees are included in the parliamentary team.
